Power Centering for Seniors Research
Mobility - Medical Research:
Medical statistics predict that 1/3 of people over 65 will fall per year. Moreover, 30% of these individuals will need medical care; many cases will lead to death within a year and bring disastrous loss of mobility and independence for others. This is a “downward spiral of morbidity.” Our findings have led to a core paradigm gleaned from global traditions: integrating established Western balance/strength protocols with the movement and cognition approaches of Chinese Medical Tai Ji/Qi Gong and innovative technology.Click Here for details (3 pg pdf)
The U.S. program completed Phase I in December 2014 in collaboration with the Harvard Medical School with Dr. S. Bhasin and T. Storer, PhD; Phase II is targeted for 2019-2021. We are now moving forward to a full randomized control trial (RCT) with the University Department of Aging Medicine of the Felix Platter Hospital in Basel, Switzerland with Prof. Dr. R. Kressig and Dr. S. Bridenbaugh (2017-2019). Through this partnership we are testing efficacy of the multi-modal “Power Centering for Seniors” intervention. Our goal is to adhere to the standards of evidence-based medicine.
